Isaac started Pre-K at Lantrip Elementary in our soon-to-be neighborhood on August, 24, 2009. He was very excited but nervous about his first day. For days beforehand, he kept wearing his backpack everywhere he went. The Friday before school started we had a chance to go to his classroom and meet his teacher. He took to her quickly and loved his classroom. So, when I went to pick up at the end of the first day, he was crying and he looked like he had been crying for a while. Ms. Aguilar, his teacher, informed me that they had a fire drill and he was really freaked out by it! My poor little guy! So, the next day and subsequent days he cried every morning that he did not want to go to school. He was fine when we would pick him up, but I could also tell he felt that it was a long day. After much thought, we decided to withdraw him. So, a week later, I called the school and told them of our decision. They suggested we take him just for a half day and see if that would make a difference. I said I was willing to try because it seemed like he really liked school, but it was taking time for him to adjust especially to a full day!
So, long story short, he is going half day, he loves school, he loves doing his homework, and he is now getting in trouble at school for being too social!
Fire drill on the first day? That's not fair. And homework for Pre-K? Yikes! It will be nice to have him in school though when Jason arrives :). Good luck this week! Tu Prima.
