Car Accident

Unfortunately, I was in a car accident with the boys the day after Isaac's birthday party. Fortunately, we were all OK, just very distraught and emotional. We were on our way to church, Eric was already there, so I had to call him and give him the bad news. I was almost to church, so he was able to be there very quickly. Thankfully, we had a witness who was nice enough to take the time to wait and speak to the policeman. This made all of the difference since the guy that hit us was trying to blame me.
Lessons learned: If I am ever a witness to an accident, I will stop and give my statement, no matter how long it takes. Second, don't leave the scene of the accident until you have a witness and the witness information. I didn't do this. I was so distraught after the accident, and I was just focused on calming the boys down, switching the car seats to the other car. I was able to eventually track down the policeman who in turn gave me the information which the insurance needed (it takes too many days to wait for the official police report). The insurance companies are merciless, its your word against theirs!
Even though the car is totalled, and I've spent more time talking to insurance companies than I'd like to think about, I am SO GRATEFUL that we are all alive and in one piece! It was quite a scare, and I hope to never experience anything like it again!

  1. sorry to hear that you had an accident but if there's any advice I can give its this... Mary (my sis) and I used to work for a civil law firm and we had a lot of accident cases and what I can tell you is that if you try to do it yourself the insurance will just give you the run-around for as long as they can, you might want to consider hiring an attorney, in this case there is NO court to attend to since this is what they call "small claims" they attorney will insure that you and your children are medically examined to be sure you're ok, there is no fee upfront, it'll take about 3 mos. and the lawyer keeps 1/3 of the money but in my opinion it's worth not having to stress over it
