This has been such a historic primary election! Last night, I attended a rally with Barack and Michelle Obama. We waited in line for about an hour and a half and waited another hour before they finally arrived to speak. Most of the room was standing, and there were limited seats, but we became VIP, when they saw Javier! So, thanks to him, we had an excellent seat that was so close to the stage (Eric and Isaac stayed home). My dad even got a brush of his hand afterwards--not quite a full handshake! It is amazing to me to see how Obama's campaign has mobilized millions to organize across the country, and in how in just a few short months, the primary elections have resulted in what no one expected. His campaign is funded by every day people like you and me. He refused to take money from special interest groups, and 90% of his campaign funds have come from folks that have donated $100 or less. His message is one of hope--hope to change Washington, hope to change the attitude of politics in this country, the hope to reinstill the American dream for all Americans, not just some. He says if you don't have hope, what do you have? Sure, he won't change everything, nor will that change come overnight. But he and his supporters sure have HOPE!
As I listened to a young lady sing the national anthem last night, I couldn't help but think of those who fought for the independence of our country. Would they ever have imagined an African-American as president of the United States? This election is historic not only because of race and gender, but because a candidate, Barack Obama, has been able to mobilize and unite, and he has been able to cross party lines!
It was energizing to be in a room full of supporters last night--people from all walks of life--janitors, politicians, teachers, and people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. I am anxiously awaiting the results of tonight's election!
I think it's great that you as well as so many others are getting so involved... it's so important to vote in order to be represented for whom you really want in office and though I am not a supporter of Obama myself I do think it is an awesome opportunity that you had! I'm into politics so I'm proud of ya for making your voice count :)
